There is no doubt that Boys and Girls learn differently. In this article and video from Christina Hoff Sommers, she outlines how boys are sometimes treated in today’s classrooms and outlines 3 steps for helping boys find success.
As a group, boys are noisy, rowdy and hard to manage. Many are messy, disorganized and won’t sit still. Young male rambunctiousness, according to a recent study, leads teachers to underestimate their intellectual and academic abilities. “Girl behavior is the gold standard in schools,” says psychologist Michael Thompson. “Boys are treated like defective girls.”
Ms. Sommers states that Bringing Back Recess, Turning Boys into Readers, and Working with the Young Male Imagination are all ways to meet the needs of boys.
