What do Good Readers Do

Reading is a skill that can taught and grown with practice.  Julie Adams gives these strategies that good readers “do.”

1.  re-read

2. read slower

3. pre-read & predict

4. connect to prior knowledge

5. guess and check

6. visualize

7. question the text/author (what does the author mean when he says this?)

8. evaluate (What did I learn? What do I still need to know? What is most important?)

9. retell (first, then, finally)

10. summarize (who, what, when, where, why, how)

Think when you read

This poster is a great reminder for students to think while they read.
